Straddling both of Pennsylvania's mountain zones, the Tiltrock Country and the Alleghenies, Woolrich Region continues Mid State Trail's dramatic views, climbing its highest relief at the Gates of Pine Creek within the Allegheny Front. Rocks in the footway gradually get smaller and smaller traveling north, making this Region popular among backpackers.
Mid State Trails's periodic growth spurts from State College reached Pennsylvania's Grand Canyon in Tioga County by 1987. The Mid State Trail in this Region passes Tiadaghton, Bald Eagle and Tioga State Forests; R.B. Winter, Ravensburg, and Little Pine State Parks; and Bark Cabin Natural Area and Wolf Run Wild Area; through Union, Lycoming, Clinton, and Tioga Counties, extending from route PA192 at Raymond B. Winter State Park to the town of Blackwell at the mouth of the Pennsylvania Grand Canyon.
The Woolrich region offers many vistas along with ventures in some remote and wild areas of Penn's Woods. Included along this stretch is the passage through the town of Woolrich as it passes by the Woolrich Clothing Factory as well as a walk on the Great Island Path used by Native Americans.

| I hiked MST Sections 8-9 from Ramsey to Blackwell during the last days of April. At nearly 40 miles, this was a 3 day, 2 night venture. These two sections are very remote, and offer great views over pine creek valley at multiple locations, including the grand finish at Gillespie Point. Unlike the more southern section the footpath gradually becomes less rocky here. Lots of small waterfalls and stream crossings add some welcome scenery along this hike. Only the incursion of some abandoned construction materials at Browns Fork detract from this section. Incidentally, the Pine Creek Rail Trail meets the MST at both Blackwell and Ramsey, allowing for a possible hike and bike loop. |
