"The Golden Eagle Trail may be the best day hike in Penn's Woods" - Tom Thwaites, 50 Hikes In Central Pennsylvania.
I think that quote pretty much sums up the Golden Eagle Trail. Located between the towns of Slate Run and Cammal in North Central Pennsylvania, the Golden Eagle Trail offers some amazing views of the Pine Creek valley. This trail, like the Black Forest Trail just to it's north, is blazed with orange circles and, at just a little over 9 miles, makes for an invigorating hike any time of the year.
Also located near the Golden Eagle Trail is the 3 mile out-and-back Bob Webber trail. Ascending the south mountain of Wolf Run, this short hike is very strenuous, but offers an amazing view from the vista at the top.
If you enjoyed hiking any part of the Black Forest Trail then you'll like these two trails as well.

It was an awesome tiring hike. Didn't manage our time too well and had to hike an hour in the dark down bonnell run. Luckily we had our head lamps.

This is one of the most beautiful hikes I've done. You can complete it in an easy four hours. It will give you a variety of challenges up and down but the fresh mountain air and views make it one of the finest in PA. The Golden Eagle Trail is historic as well as beautiful. Gab a brochure at the local general store which includes a trail map and brief descriptions of historic places and sights along the trail.

One of the best day-hikes around. Second only to Fred's Woods Trail near Driftwood, PA. Great mix of easy and strenuous. Try it in the winter w/ snow cover too! (watch/listen for the chick-a-dee's). I always hike this one counter-clockwise (that way the steepest part is downhill). Can be tricky crossing Wolf Run and Bonnell Run in the Springtime if high flows.

Fun trail, you can do it in half a day. Steep climbs, but also some sweet vistas. I would recommend doing the Clockwise loop, though you can hike it either way. I did this twice, both times in the winter with snow on the ground. Wear boots that are DEFINITELY waterproof, because you will need them. The trail crosses Wolf Run over and over again. Also, we found some vines that were really fun to swing on.

Decided to hike this trail on this past Saturday, with the nice weather and high temps. Hard to believe it is January. Some snow still on this trail, especially along Wolf Run. Ravens Horn vista was amazing. Good workout, glad I was able to get out on this trail.
