Geocaching and Free PA Hikes Merchandise

Perhaps you've heard of geocaching? Geocaching is an entertaining adventure game for GPS users and hikers alike. Participating in a cache hunt is a good way to take advantage of the wonderful features and capability of a GPS unit as well as get you out on the trail to enjoy many of nature's wonders.

Throughout the PA Hikes.com web pages you will find links for free merchandise. These links will bring you to this page where the coordinates of the cache are listed. A geocache is setup and will contain a log book. If you find the cache, please make an entry in the log book. From time to time log book entries will be posted here.

Our intentions are to have PA Hikes merchandise in these caches. However, since these are geocaches, you may find a variety of items located within the cache. We will try to keep at least one PA Hikes item in the cache at all times. If you decide to take the PA Hikes item, please feel free to send us a photo of yourself along with a brief description of when you found the cache and any other details you wish to add, and we'll post your photo on the website.

A few rules:

• Anyone can participate. Simply enter the coordinates below into your GPS unit. If you do not have a GPS unit and are using a map only then please make sure the map uses WGS84 Datum (technical GPS/map jargon).
• The caches are positioned nor more than 100 feet from the trail. However, they are typically not visible from the trail itself. The coordinates will be pretty close depending on your GPS and conditions (cloud cover, tree canopy, etc...)
• If you find a cache, make an entry in the log, take an item, and feel free to leave an item. If you take a PA Hikes item, please email us so we can return to the cache to add another. Feel free to include a photo of you and your recently found cache. We'll post it here for everyone to see.
• If you've entered the coordinates correctly, searched high and low, but can't find the cache, please email us so we can hike out and verify that the cache hasn't been taken. The cache itself is usually a plastic shoe box or ammo box, and contains a log book, pen, and usually an item or two. On occasion some people will walk off with the entire cache and we need to replace it.
